From June 30 to July 11, 2025, FGV Comunicação will host the 5th Brazilian edition of the Summer Institute in Computational Social Science (SICSS), a free two-week training program in Computational Social Science.
The event, organized by Professors Chris Bail (Duke University) and Matthew Salganik (Princeton University), has taken place annually since 2017. It brings together master’s students, PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and faculty members in a globally networked course, featuring a central edition alongside several simultaneous local editions.
Over the two weeks of SICSS, participants will receive training in digital and computational methods within the field of Computational Social Science. Sessions will be led by instructors from the main SICSS program, FGV Comunicação faculty, and guest lecturers including Thiago Ventura (Professor at Georgetown University), Leonardo Nascimento (Coordinator of the Digital Humanities Lab at the Federal University of Bahia), Davi Moreira (Assistant Professor at Emory University), and Elias Bitencourt (Associate Professor of Design at the State University of Bahia).
Applications are open until May 23. Apply now! To participate, applicants must submit a résumé, a statement of purpose, and a writing sample. Workshops and lectures will be conducted in Portuguese and held remotely.
