The coordinator of Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Department of Public Policy Analysis (FGV DAPP), Amaro Grassi, took part in a meeting organized by the Organization of American States in partnership with the Canadian government on Friday, October 15, to debate the disinformation ecosystem during Latin American elections.
Grassi presented the Digital Democracy Room, an FGV DAPP initiative for monitoring and analyzing public debate in social networks, in a session about strategic measures to fight disinformation. This initiative is making a contribution by bringing together partners across the continent to monitor public debate. It is now present in eight countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Nicaragua and Peru.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the National Democratic Institute (NDI), Argentinean fact-checking agency Chequeado (which is also a partner of FGV DAPP) and digital platforms. The participants identified challenges and lessons learned so far, and mapped opportunities for cooperation between civil society, media outlets and academia.
