FGV ECMI director Marco Ruediger participated in the event “Pact for Rio” on Friday, February 23, which was organized by FGV Conhecimento and the Brazilian Institute for Education, Development and Research (Instituto Brasileiro de Ensino, Desenvolvimento e Pesquisa – IDP), with support from the Brazil Europe Integration Forum (Fórum de Integração Brasil Europa – Fibe), Globo, Aegea, and Columbia University. The seminar was attended by specialists and authorities in order to discuss solutions for Rio de Janeiro.
With a keynote and five discussion panels, the “Pact for Rio” was attended by the president of FGV Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal as well as Brazilian political authorities such as Supreme Court Justice Gilmar Mendes, the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira, the mayor of the city of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, the governor of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Claudio Castro, among others.
Ruediger participated in the panel “Rescuing citizenship” together with Federal Deputy Dr. Luizinho, the executive director of the Brazilian Public Security Forum, Samira Bueno, the president of the Rio de Janeiro City Council, Carlo Caiado, and the municipal secretary of Education of Rio de Janeiro, Renan Ferreirinha.
“We live in a moment when everyone can produce content, and our School has come to dialogue with this digital world. We need to teach our young about this new type of Communication, preparing them to develop skills for the future and to learn about its challenges", highlighted the director during the debate on public policies in Rio de Janeiro.
On the occasion, the president of FGV, Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal, together with director Marco Ruediger, received Arthur Lira at FGV ECMI. They visited the space and discussed topics covered by the School, including the monitoring of Congress representatives and political topics on social media, as well as the use of Artificial Intelligence, focusing on its potential impacts on democracy.
