FGV ECMI professor publishes report on Elections and Digital Rights

Study analyzed the disinformation ecosystem in the Brazilian elections from 2018 to 2022

Professor Anna Bentes of the School of Communication, Media and Information at FGV (ECMI) released a report developed as a fellow of the Latin American organization Derechos Digitales: “Elections, Digital Rights and Disinformation: Challenges and lessons based on the Brazilian experience in 2022”.

The report analyzed the specificities of the disinformation ecosystem in the last presidential elections in Brazil, seeking to provide lessons to other countries in the region that face this issue. The study has three axes: the Brazilian technopolitical context from 2018 to 2022; regulation, rights and electoral justice; and digital platforms and the disinformation ecosystem. The research happened between November 2022 and May 2023, collecting and analyzing information made available by the Electoral Court, the press, institutional materials from digital platforms, among other sources. It also included 23 interviews with key players in the fight against disinformation.

The report is available in both Portuguese and Spanish versions, accessible through the links below:
