Researchers of the School of Communication, Media and Information at Fundação Getulio Vargas(FGV ECMI) partipated in the Information Literacy in the age of disruption Forum on October 17 and 18 in San Jose, Costa Rica, to talk about disinformation and elections.
Sabrina Almeida and Beatriz Pinheiro attended the whole event, which inaugurated the participation of Digital Communication Network Global in Latin America. Sabrina spoke during the section for “Disinformation during the elections and in politics”.
"It is interesting to see a greater dispute and a greater ability to drive the debate, which used to be very concentrated; on the other hand, we do not see a healthier and more balanced debate regarding the public sphere, indicating, to a certain extent, a greater dispersion in terms of strategies, but not necessarily best practices", explained Sabrina about the public debate on the circulation of misinformation on social networks.
Digital Communication Network Global invited FGV ECMI due to the scope of the Digital Democracy Room project, which has been working with social media monitoring focusing on Brazilian elections since 2018. As of 2019, the project also turned to Latin America, expanding the initiative's perspective and expertise.
